HCLTech, one of India’s largest technology services companies, announced on Monday, October 12, 2026, a Global Premier Partnership with Anthropic to accelerate enterprise adoption of agentic artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on safety, cybersecurity and governance. According to the joint announcement, issued from Santa Clara, California, and Noida, India, and a stock exchange filing reported by PTI, HCLTech’s services teams will build industry solutions with Claude, Cowork and Claude Code.

The most visible element of the deal is a dedicated Anthropic business unit, with a center of excellence that will develop agentic AI solutions and give clients secure sandbox environments to deploy Claude with support from forward deployed engineers. HCLTech will also help clients adopt AI-native engineering practices, train their workforces and build the organizational capabilities needed to operate agents safely at scale.

Agentic AI refers to systems able to carry out multi-step tasks with limited human input: reviewing code, resolving support tickets, processing documents or coordinating workflows across applications. The potential savings are large, but so are the risks when those systems operate on critical infrastructure. That is why the deal stresses sandboxed test environments, policy controls and human oversight for high-impact changes.

The second pillar of the deal involves HCLSoftware, the group’s products division, which becomes an Anthropic ISV — independent software vendor — partner. HCLSoftware will embed Claude capabilities into select products across cybersecurity, automation, business process applications and application development, including HCL BigFix, a device and patch management platform, and HCL AppScan, an application security testing tool. The announcement also mentions enabling Actian AI analyst.

In addition, HCLTech will integrate Claude and Claude Code into AI Force, its agentic software engineering platform, for IT support, code remediation and digital employee services. According to the company, these workflows will be backed by policy guardrails, exception handling and human oversight for high-impact changes. It is an approach consistent with growing concern about agents acting beyond what was intended in real environments.

Daniela Amodei, co-founder and president of Anthropic, framed the deal around trust. “AI can only be as useful as it is trustworthy, and we build Claude to give companies the confidence to bring it into their most sensitive and valuable work. HCLTech manages those kinds of systems for banks, hospitals, telecom companies and manufacturers, and we’re excited to partner with them as they integrate Claude and Claude Code,” she said.

C Vijayakumar, CEO and managing director of HCLTech, highlighted his company’s mix of services and products. “Few technology companies combine the scale of a global systems integrator with the product depth of an ISV. That gives us a rare advantage to securely engineer and deploy Agentic AI at scale,” he said. HCLTech employs more than 223,000 people in 60 countries and reported consolidated revenue of $14.8 billion for the twelve months ending June 2026.

For Anthropic, the deal extends a distribution strategy through large systems integrators, which have long-standing relationships with the technology departments of banks, insurers, hospitals and manufacturers. Companies such as Accenture and Deloitte announced partnerships in 2025 to deploy Claude among their clients and employees. HCLTech’s entry adds one of the major Indian IT services firms, with a strong presence in the United States and Europe.

For HCLTech, the partnership is also a response to the pressure generative AI puts on the traditional outsourcing model. Much of the Indian services firms’ business has relied on large teams that maintain systems, test software and handle tickets, precisely the tasks AI agents promise to automate. Becoming the partner that deploys and governs those agents is a way to turn the threat into a new revenue line.

The announcement came in the same week Anthropic announced another partnership with Workday to connect Claude with HR and finance agents, and shortly after the company reported changes to its internal evaluations because of unwanted behavior by its internet-connected models. That context explains why both partners emphasize governance: clients in regulated industries demand guarantees about what agents can do, with what permissions and under what oversight.

Commercial details have not been disclosed. The announcement does not say how many people will work in the new business unit, what investment it involves or what revenue targets have been set. Nor does it give specific dates for integrating Claude into BigFix, AppScan or AI Force. Those details will be key to assessing the deal’s real reach beyond the announcement.

Technical questions also remain. Embedding a language model in a security testing or patch management tool requires ensuring that the agent does not introduce dangerous changes or expose sensitive client information. HCLTech says it will address this with policy guardrails and human oversight, but the effectiveness of those controls can only be judged through real deployments and, likely, third-party audits.

For clients, the deal offers a middle path between building AI capabilities from scratch and relying directly on the model provider. An integrator familiar with their systems can tailor agents to specific processes, connect existing tools and take on part of the operational responsibility. In exchange, the client company must watch for dependence on a single model and demand transparency about how agent actions are logged and audited.

With this partnership, HCLTech positions itself as one of Anthropic’s main channels for bringing agentic AI to large organizations, and Anthropic gains implementation muscle in sectors where trust and regulatory compliance weigh as much as technical capability. Success will depend on the promise of governed agents translating into measurable results for clients without incidents that erode that trust.
